The upper lip and the chin tend to share a story. One holds a fine, dark shadow; the other produces the occasional coarse hair that seems to arrive overnight. Upper lip and chin laser in Richmond, BC brings both into a single, considered appointment, with light directed at the follicle to support long-lasting hair reduction.
The treatment is part of our women’s laser service at Studio Chique, a med spa in Hamilton, Richmond, where each session is shaped around your skin tone and the particular hair you want to reduce.
Benefits of upper lip and chin laser
Facial hair returns quickly, so threading, waxing and tweezing can settle into a weekly ritual nobody quite enjoys. After a series of sessions, most clients find the hair grows back finer, sparser and more slowly. The magnifying mirror is consulted less often, and the surprise hair on the chin becomes rare.
Combining the two areas is also simply graceful. They follow the same session rhythm, so one booking keeps both on schedule. Many clients notice the skin along the chin looks calmer as plucking eases, with fewer bumps from hairs that break beneath the surface.
- Two facial areas, one visit
- An unhurried twenty-five-minute appointment
- Settings for fine and coarse hair
- Fewer threading, waxing and tweezing sessions
- May calm bumps from plucked hairs
- Little downtime, redness settles within hours

What is upper lip and chin laser?
This is a facial laser hair reduction treatment that covers the area above the lip and the chin within one visit. A pulse of light is absorbed by the pigment in each hair and carried down to the follicle as gentle heat, which is designed to slow future growth.
The two areas rarely behave the same way. Lip hair is usually fine and close together, while chin hair is often thicker, deeper and scattered. Because the laser relies on pigment, it works most clearly on dark hair and is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair. On the chin, where dark hairs can sit alongside paler strays, the dark ones are those laser can usually help with.

Who is upper lip and chin laser for?
This treatment suits anyone with visible dark hair on the upper lip, the chin or both, who would like a longer-term alternative to threading or waxing. It is a natural choice if a few coarse chin hairs keep returning to the same spots, or if you have been searching for upper lip hair removal for women and would rather treat the lower face as a whole.
Facial hair can be influenced by hormones, including changes around pregnancy, perimenopause and conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome. Laser can still help, although progress may be slower and occasional maintenance sessions are often needed. To consider the whole face, browse our laser hair reduction menu.
- Dark hair on the upper lip, the chin or both

What to expect during your upper lip and chin laser
Preparation. Your appointment is reserved for about 25 minutes. The lower face is usually cleansed first so the skin is free of makeup, oil and skincare. Your skin expert will typically confirm both areas are shaved and ask about recent sun and medication.
Calibration. Protective eyewear is provided, and settings are typically chosen for your skin tone and for the different textures of lip and chin hair, since a fine shadow and a coarse strand rarely call for the same approach.
Treatment. The laser moves across both areas in short pulses. The lip, where thin skin rests over the teeth, is usually the more sensitive of the two. Most clients describe a quick snap or warm prick that fades within seconds, and cooling is usually applied during or after treatment.
Afterwards. Mild redness or small raised bumps around the follicles are common and usually settle within a few hours. You can return to your day, ideally leaving heavy makeup off the lower face until evening.

Results and how many sessions
Hair grows in cycles, and the laser can only affect hairs in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Facial hair cycles are shorter than body hair cycles, so lip and chin sessions are typically spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Many clients follow a course of around 6 to 10 sessions, and facial areas often need more than body areas. Shedding is common in the one to three weeks after each visit. Results vary with hair colour, thickness and hormones, and occasional touch-up sessions are usual for facial hair.

Preparation & Aftercare
Preparing for your appointment
- Shave the upper lip and chin the day before or the morning of your visit, stretching the skin flat as you go.
- For several weeks beforehand, avoid waxing, threading, plucking, tweezing, epilating and hair removal creams, as the laser needs the root in place.
- Keep your face out of the sun and away from tanning or self-tan.
- Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids on the area for a few days, unless the studio advises otherwise.
- Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the lower face.
Aftercare
- Keep your face out of direct sun and wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily.
- Leave makeup off the treated area for the rest of the day where you can.
- For 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms and intense exercise.
- Between sessions, shaving is fine; avoid waxing, threading, plucking and tweezing.
- Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids on the area for a few days.
- Cleanse gently and use a fragrance-free moisturiser.
- Allow shedding hairs to fall out on their own over the following weeks.
Before you book
- Tell the studio if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Tell the studio if you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months.
- Tell the studio if your face has a recent tan, sunburn or self-tan.
- Tell the studio if you take photosensitising medication, such as some antibiotics.
- Tell the studio if you have a cold sore, active infection, open wound or rash on the area.
- Tell the studio if you have a history of keloid scarring.
- Tell the studio if you have a hormonal condition affecting hair growth, so your plan can reflect it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does upper lip and chin laser cost?
The current price for the combined upper lip and chin treatment is shown on this page. Booking both areas together is often simpler than treating them on separate days. You can confirm the price when you book online or by phone.
Does laser on the upper lip hurt?
Most clients feel a quick snap or warm prick with each pulse. The upper lip is usually more sensitive than the chin, because the skin is thin and rests over the teeth. The feeling fades within seconds, and cooling is usually applied for comfort.
How many sessions do I need for chin hair?
Many clients need around 6 to 10 sessions, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Facial hair, and hormone-related chin hair in particular, often needs more sessions than body areas. Occasional touch-ups are common to maintain results.
Can laser remove grey or blonde chin hairs?
Laser is drawn to pigment, so it is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair. Dark hairs usually respond most clearly. If most of your chin hairs are grey or very fair, ask the studio before booking.
Can I keep tweezing between sessions?
No. Tweezing, threading and waxing remove the root that the laser needs to reach. Shaving is the recommended method between sessions.
Is there any downtime after facial laser?
Most clients return to their day straight away. Mild redness or small bumps around the follicles are common and usually settle within a few hours. Keep the area out of the sun and leave heavy makeup off until evening.
Upper lip and chin laser in Richmond, BC
At Studio Chique, each treatment is customised to your skin rather than set to a single standard. Your skin tone and the texture of your lip and chin hair guide how your sessions are planned, and a skin expert is there to answer questions about your hair growth before you begin. For many clients, this pairing becomes a quiet monthly appointment that keeps the lower face clear with little effort.
The lip and chin also pair well with underarm laser, as both are brief to treat. To reserve your upper lip and chin laser, book online or call 604-731-5111.
