About the treatment

Arms are always on view, at the desk, at dinner, in every photograph. Full arms laser hair removal in Richmond treats both arms from shoulder to wrist, designed for long-lasting hair reduction so you can set aside the awkward work of shaving or waxing along each arm.

Your sessions are part of our women’s laser service at Studio Chique, a med spa in Richmond, BC, with settings chosen for your skin tone and the particular colour of your arm hair.

The benefits

Benefits of full arms laser

Shaving an arm is never quite graceful, and forearm regrowth can feel coarse to the touch within a day or two. Waxing lasts longer but asks you to let the hair grow out first. Over a course of laser sessions, most clients find arm hair returns finer, sparser and more slowly.

Treating the whole arm also gives an even finish. When only the forearm is shaved or waxed, a visible line can appear where the treated skin meets the untreated. Working from shoulder to wrist avoids that edge, so the arm reads as one smooth length.

For many women the motivation is simply ease: reaching for a sleeveless top or a short-sleeved dress without a second thought.

The ritual

What is full arms laser?

Full arms laser is arm laser hair reduction for the upper arms and forearms. Light is absorbed by the pigment in each hair and travels to the follicle, where the heat is designed to slow the hair’s return. If you would also like the backs of the hands and fingers attended to, ask the studio whether they are included.

Arm hair changes along its length. On the forearm it is often darker and more visible; on the upper arm it tends to be softer and fairer. Laser follows pigment, so it is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair. Dark forearm hair usually responds well, while very fine, fair hair on the upper arm may respond less.

Who is full arms laser for?

This treatment suits women whose dark or medium-brown arm hair stands out against their skin tone. It is a popular choice for anyone who feels self-conscious about arm hair in short sleeves, or whose shaved forearms turn rough soon after.

If your arm hair is very fine and fair, ask the studio whether laser is likely to help before you begin. Many clients treat their arms as part of a wider plan; see the full range of unwanted hair treatments.

  • Women with dark or medium-brown arm hair
  • Anyone self-conscious about arm hair in short sleeves
  • Forearms that feel rough soon after shaving
  • Beginning in autumn or winter, ahead of summer
  • Pairing with underarm or leg laser
The experience

What to expect during your full arms laser

  1. Your appointment is reserved for about 35 minutes. The skin is usually cleansed first, with particular care near the upper arm, where traces of deodorant or lotion can linger.

  2. Your skin expert selects settings for your skin tone and the density of your arm hair, and you put on protective eyewear. You can rest comfortably with each arm extended in turn.

  3. The handpiece then travels down each arm in sections, from the shoulder to the wrist. Arms are typically among the more comfortable areas to treat, as the skin is less sensitive than on the face or underarm. The inner forearm and the crease of the elbow may feel sharper. Most clients describe a quick, warm snap, and cooling is often applied.

  4. Some redness and small bumps around the follicles are expected afterwards and usually settle within a few hours. Loose, breathable sleeves are kindest to the skin for the rest of the day.

The results

Results and how many sessions

Hair grows in cycles, and laser affects only the hairs in an active growth phase at the moment of treatment. Several sessions are needed to reach each hair at the right stage. Body hair cycles more slowly than facial hair, so arm appointments are typically spaced six to eight weeks apart.

Many clients complete around six to eight sessions, with occasional touch-ups later. Treated hairs often shed within one to three weeks of each visit. Hair colour, thickness and hormones all play a part, so results vary.

Arms see more sun than almost any other part of the body. Since tanning must be avoided before and after each visit, autumn and winter are a natural time to begin, so the main course is well under way before short sleeves return.

Care, before and after

Preparation & Aftercare

Preparing for your appointment

  • Shave both arms the day before or the morning of your visit, including the upper arm and the back of the elbow.
  • For several weeks beforehand, avoid waxing, plucking, epilating and hair removal creams.
  • Keep your arms out of the sun, away from tanning beds and free of self-tan for several weeks before treatment.
  • On the day, skip lotions, oils and perfume on your arms.
  • Wear a top with short or loose sleeves.

Aftercare

  • Keep your arms out of direct sun and apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher when they are exposed.
  • Avoid self-tan and tanning beds between sessions.
  • Avoid hot baths, saunas and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser if the skin feels warm or dry.
  • Shave if needed between sessions, but do not wax, pluck or epilate.
  • Leave body scrubs off the arms for a few days.
  • Allow treated hairs to shed on their own over the following weeks.

Before you book

  • Tell the studio if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell the studio if you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months.
  • Tell the studio if your arms have a recent tan, sunburn or self-tan.
  • Tell the studio if you take photosensitising medication, such as certain antibiotics.
  • Tell the studio if you have an active infection, open wound, rash or eczema flare on your arms.
  • Tell the studio if you have a history of keloid scarring.
  • Tell the studio about tattoos on your arms, as tattooed skin is usually avoided.

Your questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Another question? Call 604-731-5111 or send a message.

How much does full arms laser cost?

The current price for full arms laser is shown on this page and covers both arms in one appointment. You can confirm it when you book online or by phone.

How long does a full arms laser session take?

Your appointment is reserved for about 35 minutes. That includes preparing the skin and treating both arms from shoulder to wrist.

How many sessions do I need for arm hair?

Many clients complete around six to eight sessions, spaced six to eight weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles, so a series is needed to reach each hair in its growth phase. Occasional touch-ups may follow.

Does laser work on light arm hair?

Laser follows pigment, so it is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair. Darker forearm hair usually responds most readily, while very fine, fair upper arm hair may respond less. If you are unsure about your hair colour, ask the studio.

Does arm laser hurt?

Most clients find arms one of the more comfortable areas. Each pulse brings a quick, warm snap, a little sharper on the inner forearm and elbow, and the sensation fades within seconds.

When should I start arm laser for summer?

Autumn or winter is a natural time to begin, since tanning must be avoided before and after each session. Starting several months ahead allows a few sessions before short-sleeve season.
