About the treatment

Few things are as persistent as a coarse chin hair. You feel it before you see it, under your fingertips on a morning commute or in the angled light of a car mirror. Chin laser hair removal in Richmond, BC is designed to answer that hair at its source, with light directed at the follicle to support long-lasting hair reduction across a planned course.

Your sessions are part of our women’s laser service at Studio Chique, a med spa in Hamilton, Richmond, where every treatment is customised to your skin and guided by a skin expert.

The benefits

Benefits of chin laser hair removal

Coarse chin hair grows quickly and announces itself to the touch, which is why so many clients keep tweezers in every bag. Over a course of sessions, laser can help reduce how many hairs return and how quickly they reappear, so the daily inspection becomes an occasional glance.

Your skin may thank you as well. Repeated plucking along the chin and jaw can leave small bumps, ingrown hairs and lingering dark marks. As fewer hairs grow back, many clients find the skin in this area smoother and calmer to the touch. Results vary, particularly where hormones continue to drive new growth.

  • Focused on coarse chin and jaw hair
  • A considered twenty-minute appointment
  • Can help retire the daily tweezers
  • May ease bumps from years of plucking
  • Calibrated to your skin and hair
  • Maintenance discussed for hormonal growth

The ritual

What is chin laser hair removal?

Laser light is absorbed by the pigment within each hair and converted into heat. That heat reaches the follicle and is designed to slow its ability to produce new growth. The treated area usually includes the front of the chin and the soft skin beneath it, and can follow the line of the jaw where hair tends to gather.

Chin hair is often thick, dark and deeply rooted, which gives the laser a clear target. The same principle sets its limit: laser is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair. Those pale strays that appear among darker ones will not respond and are better managed another way.

Who is chin laser hair removal for?

This treatment suits anyone with dark, coarse hair on the chin or under the jaw, including hair linked to hormonal shifts such as PCOS, pregnancy, perimenopause or menopause. It is equally suited to skin that has become bumpy or prone to ingrown hairs from years of tweezing.

If coarse hair has appeared suddenly or is spreading quickly, speak with your doctor as well, as it can signal an underlying hormonal condition. If the upper lip also concerns you, upper lip and chin laser brings both areas into a single visit.

  • Dark, coarse hair on the chin or under the jaw
  • Hormonal chin hair linked to PCOS, pregnancy or menopause
  • Anyone who tweezes every day or two
  • Skin with bumps or ingrown hairs from plucking
The experience

What to expect during your chin laser hair removal

  1. Welcome and review. Your appointment is reserved for about 20 minutes. Your skin expert will usually ask about sun exposure, skincare and medication, and check that the chin and the skin beneath the jaw are cleanly shaved.

  2. Setting the course. Settings are typically selected for your skin tone and for the thickness of your chin hair. You will wear protective eyewear, and you may be asked to tilt your head back so the underside of the chin lies open and even.

  3. Treatment. Because chin hair is dense and coarse, the sensation here is usually more pronounced than on finer areas. Most clients describe a sharp snap with each pulse, which tends to ease as the hair thins over the course.

  4. Afterwards. Redness and small raised bumps around the follicles are common and usually settle within a few hours to a day. Over the next one to three weeks, treated hairs may loosen and shed on their own.

Results and how many sessions

Each hair follows its own growth cycle, and the laser can only reach those in the active phase on the day of your visit. Facial hair cycles more quickly than body hair, so chin sessions are usually spaced about four to six weeks apart. Many clients need around six to ten sessions.

Coarse chin hair often shows a visible change early in the course. Hormonal hair, however, can keep producing new strands over time, so maintenance sessions every few months are common once the main course is complete. It is most realistic to see chin laser as an ongoing way to manage hair rather than a single answer.

Care, before and after

Preparation & Aftercare

Preparing for your appointment

The hardest step for many chin clients comes first: put the tweezers away. Stop plucking, threading and waxing for several weeks before your first session, because the laser needs the root in place. From here on, shaving is the way to manage chin hair between visits.

Shave the day before or the morning of your appointment. Tilt your head back, stretch the skin beneath the jaw with your free hand and glide a clean facial razor lightly in the direction of growth, using a hand mirror to check the underside of the chin. Keep your face out of the sun, avoid self-tan, and arrive with clean skin and no makeup.

Aftercare

  • Redness or small bumps may last from a few hours to a day.
  • A cool compress can soothe the chin if it feels warm or tender.
  • Leave the treated area free of makeup for the rest of the day where possible.
  • Wear SPF 30 or higher on your face every day between sessions.
  • For 24 hours, avoid saunas, steam and intense exercise.
  • Between sessions, shaving is fine; avoid plucking, tweezing, threading and waxing.
  • Allow treated hairs to shed on their own over the following one to three weeks.

Before you book

  • Tell the studio if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell the studio if you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months.
  • Tell the studio if your face has recent sun exposure or self-tan.
  • Tell the studio if you take any photosensitising medication.
  • Tell the studio if you have active acne, infected ingrown hairs or broken skin on the chin.
  • Tell the studio if you have a history of keloid scarring.
  • Tell the studio if you have a known hormonal condition affecting hair growth.
  • Laser is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair.

Your questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Another question? Call 604-731-5111 or send a message.

How much is chin laser hair removal?

The current price for a chin session is shown on this page. When you book, ask how many sessions and what maintenance to plan for, so the full course is clear from the start.

Does laser work on hormonal chin hair?

Hormonal chin hair laser treatment can help reduce dark, coarse growth. Because hormones may keep producing new hairs, maintenance sessions are common after the main course. If hair has appeared suddenly, speak with your doctor as well.

How many sessions does chin hair need?

Many clients need around six to ten sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart. Coarse hair often shows a change early in the course. Hormonal hair may call for ongoing maintenance.

Does chin laser hurt?

Chin hair is coarse and dense, so most clients feel a sharp snap with each pulse. The sensation usually eases as the hair thins over the course.

Can I keep tweezing my chin hairs between sessions?

No. Tweezing and plucking remove the root that the laser needs to reach. Shave the chin instead, both between sessions and before each appointment.

Will laser remove grey chin hairs?

Laser is drawn to pigment, so it is generally not effective on white or grey hair, or on red or very light blonde hair. Grey chin hairs call for a different removal method.
