About the treatment

Legs are the largest area most women shave, and often the most demanding. Full legs laser hair removal in Richmond treats both legs from the upper thigh to the ankle, working toward long-lasting hair reduction so that smooth skin becomes your everyday rather than the result of a morning routine.

Each session is part of our women’s laser service at Studio Chique, a med spa in Richmond, BC, and is set up around your own skin tone and the way your leg hair grows.

The benefits

Benefits of full legs laser

On dark, coarse leg hair, a fresh shave can show a shadow again within a day. Over a course of sessions, most clients find the hair returns finer, sparser and far more slowly, until shaving becomes something you do now and then rather than every other morning.

The legs are also where razor bumps and ingrown hairs tend to gather, especially along the shins and around the knees, where coarse hair can curl back beneath the surface. As hair thins, many clients notice fewer of these, and the small dark dots in the pores sometimes called strawberry legs may become less visible. Results vary from person to person.

The quieter reward is ease: bare legs under a summer dress, without a last-minute shave.

  • Upper thigh to ankle, both legs
  • About 35 minutes per visit
  • Designed for long-lasting hair reduction
  • Fewer ingrown hairs for many clients
  • Shaving becomes occasional, not daily

The ritual

What is full legs laser?

Full legs laser is leg laser hair reduction for the thighs, knees and lower legs, front and back. A focused beam of light is absorbed by the pigment in each hair and carried down to the follicle, where the resulting heat is designed to slow regrowth.

Leg hair is rarely the same from top to bottom. On the shins and calves it is often darker and coarser, an ideal target for the laser. Higher on the thigh it tends to be finer and lighter. Because the light seeks pigment, laser is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair.

Who is full legs laser for?

This treatment suits women with medium to dark leg hair who have grown tired of daily shaving, the wait between waxing appointments or the itch of regrowth. It is a thoughtful choice if your shins are prone to ingrown hairs, razor burn or visible stubble.

If you would like only part of the leg treated, or wish to combine legs with other areas, the laser hair reduction menu shows every option.

  • Women with medium to dark leg hair
  • Shins prone to ingrown hairs or razor burn
  • Stubble that shadows within a day
  • Beginning in autumn or winter, ahead of summer
  • Pairing with underarm or arm laser
The experience

What to expect during your full legs laser

  1. Your appointment is reserved for about 35 minutes. It usually begins with the skin being cleansed of any lotion or body oil, and a quick check that the backs of the knees and thighs are cleanly shaved.

  2. Your skin expert then chooses settings to suit your skin tone and the thickness of your leg hair. You put on protective eyewear and settle in, first lying on your back, then turning over so the backs of the legs can be treated.

  3. The handpiece moves along each leg in steady sections. The thighs are typically the most comfortable; the shins, knees and ankles, where skin lies close to the bone, tend to feel sharper. Most clients describe a quick, warm snap, and cooling is often applied along the way.

  4. Mild redness and small raised bumps around the follicles are common afterwards and usually fade within a few hours. Loose trousers or a skirt make the journey home more comfortable.

Results and how many sessions

Hair grows in cycles, and only the hairs in an active growth phase respond to laser at each visit. Several sessions are therefore needed to reach them all. Leg hair grows more slowly than facial hair, so appointments are typically spaced six to eight weeks apart, sometimes longer for the lower legs as the course progresses.

Many clients complete around six to eight sessions, with occasional touch-ups later. Treated hairs often shed within one to three weeks of each visit. Hair colour, thickness and hormones all shape the outcome, so results vary.

Timing is worth planning. With sessions roughly two months apart and tanning to be avoided throughout, beginning in autumn or early winter allows several sessions before the season of shorts and swimwear.

Care, before and after

Preparation & Aftercare

Preparing for your appointment

  • Shave both legs the day before or the morning of your visit, paying close attention to the knees, ankles and backs of the thighs.
  • For several weeks beforehand, avoid waxing, plucking, epilating and hair removal creams.
  • Keep your legs out of the sun, away from tanning beds and free of self-tan for several weeks before treatment.
  • On the day, leave off lotions and body oils.
  • If you are prone to ingrown hairs, exfoliate gently a few days before, then stop the day before your visit.

Aftercare

  • Keep your legs out of direct sun and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher when they are exposed.
  • Avoid self-tan and tanning beds between sessions.
  • Avoid hot baths, saunas, swimming pools and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Wear loose clothing over the treated skin for the rest of the day.
  • Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser if the skin feels warm.
  • Shave if needed between sessions, but do not wax, pluck or epilate.
  • Wait a few days before using scrubs, then exfoliate gently to help shedding hairs release.

Before you book

  • Tell the studio if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell the studio if you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months.
  • Tell the studio if your legs have a recent tan, sunburn or self-tan.
  • Tell the studio if you take photosensitising medication, such as certain antibiotics.
  • Tell the studio if you have an active infection, open wound, rash or inflamed ingrown hairs on your legs.
  • Tell the studio if you have a history of keloid scarring.
  • Tell the studio about tattoos on your legs, as tattooed skin is usually avoided.

Your questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Another question? Call 604-731-5111 or send a message.

How much does full legs laser cost?

The current price for full legs laser is shown on this page and covers both legs from upper thigh to ankle. You can confirm it when you book online or by phone.

How long does a full legs laser appointment take?

Your appointment is reserved for about 35 minutes. That includes preparing the skin and treating the front and back of both legs.

How many sessions does leg laser take?

Many clients complete around six to eight sessions, spaced six to eight weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles, so a series is needed to reach each hair while it is actively growing. Occasional touch-ups may follow.

Can laser help with ingrown hairs on my legs?

Many clients notice fewer ingrown hairs as their leg hair becomes finer and less dense. Results vary. Mention any active, inflamed ingrown hairs to the studio before your session.

Does leg laser hurt?

Most clients feel a quick, warm snap with each pulse. The thighs are usually the most comfortable, while the shins, knees and ankles can feel sharper. The sensation fades within seconds.

When should I start leg laser before summer?

Autumn or early winter is an ideal time to begin. Sessions are about two months apart and tanning must be avoided around treatment, so an early start allows several sessions before summer.
