The sides of the face are where light falls first: from a window, a lamp, a low winter sun. Darker hair along the cheeks or sideburns can show there more than you might expect, softening the line of your profile or lifting through foundation. Cheek laser hair removal in Richmond, BC is designed to refine that area gently, with light directed at the follicle to support long-lasting hair reduction.
Each course is planned as part of our women’s laser service at Studio Chique, a med spa in Hamilton, Richmond, where treatments are customised to your skin and guided by a skin expert.
Benefits of cheek laser hair removal
Darker cheek and sideburn hair can catch the light in photographs, show through a sheer base or make the hairline at the side of the face appear heavier than you would like. Over several sessions, laser can help reduce that hair so your profile looks cleaner and calls for less upkeep.
The skin often benefits too. Threading and waxing across the cheeks can leave it flushed and prone to breakouts, especially if you wear makeup every day. As regrowth becomes finer, most clients find they reach for hair removal far less often, and foundation glides more evenly over the cheekbone. Results vary with hair colour and hormones.
- A light fifteen-minute appointment
- Refines darker cheek and sideburn hair
- Foundation may sit more evenly
- Fewer threading or waxing appointments
- Calibrated to your skin and hair
- Among the gentler facial areas

What is cheek laser hair removal?
Laser light is absorbed by the pigment in each hair and turned into heat, which travels down to the follicle and is designed to slow its ability to produce new hair. On the cheeks, the treated zone usually runs from the sideburns across the upper and outer cheek, staying well clear of the eye area.
Cheek hair is rarely uniform. Most of the cheek often carries soft, pale vellus hair, the familiar peach fuzz, while darker and coarser hair gathers along the sideburns or toward the jaw. Laser targets pigment, so it works on those darker hairs and is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair.

Who is cheek laser hair removal for?
This treatment suits anyone with visible darker hair on the cheeks or sideburns, particularly where that hair has become more noticeable after hormonal changes. It also suits clients who currently thread or wax the sides of the face and would welcome fewer appointments.
It is not the right choice for very light, fine peach fuzz alone. In a small number of people, laser on fine facial hair has been linked to new growth nearby, known as paradoxical hair growth, so your skin expert may suggest leaving pale vellus hair as it is. For soft, light hair and a smoother canvas for makeup, exfoliating facials may suit you better. If hair also grows on the lip or chin, full face laser covers more ground in one visit.

What to expect during your cheek laser hair removal
A short consultation. Your appointment is reserved for about 15 minutes. Your skin expert will usually ask about sun exposure, skincare and medication, and confirm that both cheeks and the sideburn area are cleanly shaved to the line you prefer.
Mapping the area. Settings are typically adjusted for your skin tone and for the difference between coarser sideburn hair and finer cheek hair. You will wear protective eyewear throughout, and the treated area stays well below the eye.
Treatment. The cheeks are generally among the more comfortable facial areas, because the skin rests over softer padding. Most clients describe a light snap or warm flick, a touch stronger along the sideburns where hair is denser.
Afterwards. A faint pinkness is common and usually fades within a few hours, leaving you free to continue your day.

Results and how many sessions
Facial hair moves through its growth cycles more quickly than body hair, so cheek sessions are usually spaced about four to six weeks apart. Only hairs in the active growth phase respond at each visit, which is why a course is needed. Many clients need around six to eight sessions, and finer cheek hair may take more.
Darker sideburn hair often responds sooner than the finer hair across the cheek. Where cheek hair is hormonal, new hairs may appear over time, and occasional maintenance sessions may help.

Preparation & Aftercare
Preparing for your appointment
Shave both cheeks and the sideburn area the day before or the morning of your session. Use a clean facial razor, move lightly in the direction of growth, and leave the natural hairline in front of the ear exactly where you want the edge to sit. Avoid shaving over active breakouts.
For several weeks beforehand, avoid waxing, threading, plucking and hair removal creams on the cheeks. Keep your face out of the sun, skip self-tan, and arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the cheeks. If retinoids or exfoliating acids are part of your routine, mention them when you book.
Aftercare
- Light pinkness for a few hours is expected.
- A cool compress can soothe the cheeks if they feel warm.
- Leave the treated area free of makeup for the rest of the day where possible.
- Wear SPF 30 or higher on your face every day between sessions.
- For 24 hours, avoid saunas, steam rooms and intense exercise.
- Between sessions, shaving is fine; avoid waxing, threading and plucking.
- Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids on the cheeks for a few days.
Before you book
- Tell the studio if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Tell the studio if you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months.
- Tell the studio if your face has recent sun exposure or self-tan.
- Tell the studio if you take any photosensitising medication.
- Tell the studio if you have active acne, a rash or broken skin on the cheeks.
- Tell the studio if you have reacted to laser on fine facial hair before.
- Laser is generally not effective on white, grey, red or very light blonde hair.

How much does cheek laser hair removal cost?
The current price for a cheek session is shown on this page. When you book, ask how many sessions to expect for your hair.
Can laser remove peach fuzz on my cheeks?
Laser is drawn to pigment, so very light, fine peach fuzz usually does not respond well. In some people, laser on fine facial hair has been linked to new growth nearby. Darker cheek and sideburn hair is the better candidate.
Does cheek laser hurt?
The cheeks are generally one of the more comfortable facial areas. Most clients feel a light snap or warm flick, slightly stronger along the sideburns where hair is coarser.
How many cheek laser sessions will I need?
Many clients need around six to eight sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart. Finer hair can take longer, and hormonal hair may need maintenance sessions.
Can I wear makeup after cheek laser?
Leave makeup off the treated area for the rest of the day while any pinkness settles. From the next day, most clients return to their usual routine, with daily SPF.
Will laser change my sideburn shape?
Laser only reduces hair where it is applied. Shave to the line you want before your session, and tell your skin expert where the treated edge should stop.
